Humility Is Obedience — And It Never Loses
“He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.” — Philippians 2:8
True
Humility Is Not Just a Feeling — It Is a Choice
We often picture humility as a posture of quietness,
gentleness, or not thinking too highly of ourselves. While those are marks of
humility, they are only part of the picture. The clearest evidence of humility
in a person’s life is this:
Humility is choosing to obey God's
Word—especially when it costs your pride.
Jesus didn’t just appear humble—He humbled
Himself by obeying, even when it meant dying on the cross. He didn’t
defend Himself. He didn’t retaliate. He simply said yes to the Father.
When You are
Offended, Pride Reacts. Humility Obeys.
Look at it practically.
If someone offends or disrespects you, your
pride will demand you respond by:
- Giving
them the silent treatment
- Proving
your point
- Withholding
love or forgiveness
But humility would say:
“I will forgive because God said so.”
Even if you look weak and no one applauds your
choice… God sees it.
And here's the powerful truth:
Humility
Never Loses
The world may see obedience as a weakness. But
God sees it as faith and strength.
“Humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” — 1 Peter 5:6
Every act of humility will be rewarded—with
grace, peace, wisdom, and divine lifting. It may not come instantly, but God
keeps a record of those who walk low before Him.
Reflection
Questions:
- Is God
asking you to forgive someone who hurt your pride?
- Are
you hesitating to obey His Word because it may “make you look weak”?
- Do you
trust that God will reward humility in His way and time?
Prayer:
Lord, I choose humility. I choose to obey You
even when it’s uncomfortable. Even when it hurts my pride, I say yes to Your
Word. Help me to forgive, to release, to walk in quiet obedience. I trust that
You will lift me in due time. In Jesus’ name, amen.
