The Quickening Power of Hope
📖 “I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” (Psalms 27:13, KJV)
God is the giver of life—He has the power to quicken (bring life to) any dead or hopeless situation. This is part of His very identity.
📖 Romans 4:17 (KJV) states:
“As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations, before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were.”
1. God Quickens Through Hope in His Promises
Throughout Scripture, we see that God’s quickening power operates through hope, which He injects into our hearts through His Word and promises.
Abraham and Sarah provide a clear example:
• In the natural, they were beyond childbearing age—a hopeless situation.
• But God spoke a promise, giving them a supernatural hope that went beyond their physical reality.
• Hope became the bridge that allowed them to receive the quickenings of faith and fulfillment of the promise.
📖 Romans 4:18-21 shows Abraham’s response:
“Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be… He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform.”
💡 Key Truth:
When God’s Word gives supernatural hope, it overrides natural hopelessness and produces quickening (restoration, revival, and fulfillment).
2. The Metaphor of Hope in Job 14:7-9
This truth is beautifully illustrated in Job’s words:
📖 Job 14:7-9 (KJV):
“For there is HOPE of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will SPROUT AGAIN, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease. Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof DIE in the ground; Yet through the SCENT OF WATER it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.”
The Power of “The Scent of Water”
• The cut-down tree represents a person or situation that seems dead and hopeless.
• The roots growing old in the earth show the passing of time, delays, and long-standing struggles.
• But then, “the scent of water” enters—a symbol of hope, revival, and renewal.
• With just a hint of water, the tree sprouts again, regenerates, and thrives.
💡 Spiritual Insight:
The scent of water represents the supernatural hope that comes from God’s Word and Spirit. Even when everything appears dead, lost, or impossible, the injection of hope causes restoration to begin.
3. Hope as the Foundation for Quickening and Restoration
David understood the quickening power of God’s promises and prayed for supernatural hope.
📖 Psalms 119:49 (KJV):
“Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to HOPE.”
• David faced adversity, but he held onto the Word that gave him hope.
• His hope was not in circumstances but in the unchanging promise of God.
• This hope became his lifeline and his quickening force.
💡 Key Application:
• Do not let hopelessness define your situation.
• Seek out God’s promises—they carry life-giving hope.
• Stay in faith and expectation; the scent of water (hope) will cause restoration and renewal.
Conclusion: Let the Waters of Hope Flow
No matter how cut down, withered, or lifeless a situation may seem, God’s quickenings operate through the power of hope. His Word injects supernatural expectation into our spirit, causing revival, renewal, and restoration.
