THERE IS A GREATER RECORD

THERE IS A GREATER RECORD

People often celebrate birthdays with grand parties, naming them with special titles like "Sweet Sixteen," "Golden Jubilee," or "Diamond Jubilee." In some families, forgotten birthdays have even sparked conflict.

I recall a powerful lesson God gave me in 2014 that illustrated the nature of faith. It began as a quiet conversation in my heart.

"When were you born?" He asked.
"May 21st, 19—," I replied.

"How do you know?" He continued.

I thought for a moment and then answered, "My dad told me, and I also saw the record in his diary."

God then asked, "So, you had the record of men for it? Your father, mother, and the medical center where you were born? You weren't there when it happened, yet you believed it. And since then, you have shared this record with everyone you meet, even government authorities."

That was the moment it clicked.

I was studying 1 John 5 at the time, and God was using this conversation to show me the meaning of verse 9:

"If we receive the witness [record] of men, the witness [record] of God is greater; for this is the witness of God which He has testified of His Son" (1 John 5:9).

To receive here means to believe, and witness means record. The point was clear to me that we celebrate birthdays based on the records we have accepted from others as truth. We believe the records of man every day. That's what faith is about; a matter of accepting and acting upon records or reports.

We trust our father and the medical authorities who tell us the date of our birth based on a birth certificate. We believe doctors' diagnoses on paper about our health, sometimes causing us to feel despair or even fear. We accept economic, legal, and weather reports without question. We believe we are married because of a legal certificate, or that we own a house because of a property deed. We believe professionals are qualified based on the records they hold.

This is the key: If we can believe the records of man, how much more should we believe the greater record of God? When we choose not to believe God, we are essentially saying either He doesn't exist or that He is a liar. Those are the only logical explanations for unbelief. Unbelief is judged by God because it denies His truth and existence.

The record of God is greater than the record of man. If we choose to accept God's record, it has the power to overrule any earthly report.
But sometimes, our unbelief comes from two places:

1. Our ignorance of God's record.
2. Our choice not to accept it when we hear it.

Yet, the record of God is freely available to us in the Bible and in the message of His servants. It is not hidden. It is for our benefit.
As you read God's record, pay attention!
God's record is built on what His Son has already done for us.

"He who believes in the Son of God has the witness in himself; he who does not believe God has made Him a liar, because he has not believed the testimony that God has given of His Son" (1 John 5:10).

This is the testimony: "God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life." (1 John 5:11-12).

Notice, it does not say "God has given us religion." Religion does not save us—it is the Son who gives us eternal life.

God's record also declares that you are healed if you have eternal life!

"Who His own self bore our sins in His body on the tree [the Cross], that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed." (1 Peter 2:24).

You have a choice to believe God’s record, which promises healing, over the report you may have received from a doctor.

How to Receive Eternal Life

Believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, came into the world, died for your sins, and was raised on the third day. His blood has washed away your sins, and you are forgiven. Believe you receive eternal life through Him.

Conclusion

When you hear someone talk about God’s record, pay attention. Better still, go and explore God’s record for yourself. Choose to believe it, and celebrate it, for it holds eternal benefits for you. "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life" (John 3:16). The Bible is your greatest asset! Use it!
