THE HIGHEST STANDARD!

“Quench not the Spirit. DESPISE NOT PROPHECIES. PROVE all things; HOLD FAST that which is GOOD. Abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:19-22).

God can speak to us by His SPIRIT through any of the following mediums.


1. His written Word

2. Prophecy

3. Visions

4. Revelations

5. Dreams

6. Others


God speaks to us for our good and profit. But He also knows that the enemy can imitate Him to use the same medium for his evil end. He gave us a guide in His word.¹


THREE LEVELS OF PROPHECY


1. There is a prophecy.

2. There is the spirit of prophecy; which is the testimony of Christ.²

3. There is a more sure word of prophecy; which is the prophecy of scriptures - the written word.³


Every prophecy should be judged in the light of the SPIRIT OF PROPHECY and the MORE SURE WORD OF PROPHECY. True prophecy is cut from the fabric of the written Word of God. If you cannot find a place where the prophecy fits in the Word, then you don’t have to hold on to it. 


THE TESTIMONY OF CHRIST

If the spirit of the prophecy is contrary to the testimony of Christ, then you don’t have to hold on to it. 

The spirit of prophecy is not judgmental in its finality. It leaves room for repentance. It warns us of an impending doom from which Jesus is our salvation. His Word, His shed blood and the Holy Spirit are one. They give the same verdict. There is an escape from Judgment; whether temporarily or eternally through obedience.


There is a correct response to prophecies, dreams, visions or revelations. The word of God is the highest standard for victory. 


UNCHANGEABLE


Only the written Word is unchangeable or immutable. 


DEMAND OF WISDOM


God Himself has one standard. His Word is His standard (Ephesians 1:11). It is wise to imitate Him and also make the Word the standard for our lives. Once you do that you will be able to do one of two things with prophecies, visions or revelations and dreams. 


You will either enforce it by faith in the Word. Or you will cancel it by faith in the Word.


A GOOD EXAMPLE 


There is a very strong case in scripture. Prophet Isaiah came to King Hezekiah with A WORD FROM GOD that he should prepare to die. If the standard of King Hezekiah's life was prophecy he would have been a dead man. But because the standard for his life was the Word he took his case to God in prayer. He argued his case by God's standard. And God will never deny His Word. To do so is to deny Himself. He changed the prophetic word and added fifteen years to the King's life. The only unchangeable voice is the voice of the Word. It has been written.


If God can change his own word through the mouth of His prophet Isaiah; He will change the word from the mouth of any man.


He will change the word from the mouth of a witch.


He will change the word from the mouth of a doctor.


He will change the evil verdict of a dream or revelation. 


JUST WATCH YOUR RESPONSE!


If you had a dream, for example, or saw a vision of evil you don't have to choose fear and tears if the written Word is your standard. If there is a situation in your life that requires you to repent, then repent to claim the promise of God's written Word. Dreams, prophecies and visions cannot overrule God's written Word. You will not read anywhere in scripture that God and prophecy, dream, vision or revelation are one. They can serve for INSTRUCTION, WARNING, DIRECTION and CORRECTION. But you read in John Chapter 1 that "The Word was God". The word is God.


SAME VERDICT


The written Word, the Holy Spirit and the Blood of Jesus Christ are one. They carry the same verdict. They all agree. That means you can overrule any dream or vision contrary to the Word by the verdict of the blood. The verdict of the blood says those who believe in Jesus Christ are redeemed, forgiven, justified, holy, cleansed, chosen, blessed, accepted, favored and healed. The word of God says if you exercise your authority; "NOTHING SHALL BY ANY MEANS HURT YOU" (Luke 10:19). “Nothing” includes prophecies, dreams, visions or revelations.


PROPHECIES AND REVELATIONS CAN COME AS A WARNING.

We see prophet Elisha use revelation to save the army of Israel several times because the king heed the warning. It would have only come to pass if he ignored the warning 


“Then the king of Syria warred against Israel, and took counsel with his servants, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.


And the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware that you pass not such a place; for thither the Syrians are come down.


And the king of Israel sent to the place which the man of God told him and WARNED HIM of, and SAVED HIMSELF there, not once nor twice.” (2 Kings 6:8-10).


GOD'S REPORT IS HIS WRITTEN WORD. The witness of it should be in your heart by the Spirit. This is one of my favorite scriptures. "...God's report is greater." (1 John 5:9). Dreams, prophecy, visions, revelations, even doctors' reports and circumstances are not equal to God's report. They are not final. God's Report is Final! Satan can manipulate prophecies, dreams, visions, revelations and symptoms. But he cannot manipulate the written Word. That means Satan can manipulate our lives with prophecy, vision, dreams and revelation until we make the written Word the standard for our lives in all circumstances.


LET THE WORD JUDGE


The instruction is to test or prove all things; hold only that which is good". We can only begin to prove all things by the written Word. That is the only true judge of good and evil. We must move higher to the realm of the written Word. Believe the Word. Believe God. God is good. With God all things are possible.


A CALL TO REPENTANCE


If you repent and make Christ your Lord, the Word says you become the righteousness of God in Him. You are not a candidate for judgment. You are a recipient of mercy, and favor. Don't receive that evil report! A doctor's report cannot overrule God's Word. But you can overrule a doctor's report, or any evil report by the Word of God. God is the Great Physician and His report is already written. God's Word is the only Constant. Believe it. Make it the standard and you will find that Psalm 112:7 is true. "He will not be afraid of evil tidings; His heart is steadfast (FIXED), trusting in the LORD". Your heart can remain fixed as you trust in the Lord even in the face of evil report; because you know THE HIGHEST STANDARD where you live.


FEED ON THE WORD.

"Curds and honey He shall eat, that He may KNOW to REFUSE the EVIL and CHOOSE the GOOD." (Isaiah 7:15).


We can learn to REJECT the evil and CHOOSE the good.
