THE GUARANTEE OF SALVATION
“By so much was Jesus made a SURETY of a better testament.” (Hebrews 7:22).
The word SURETY means guarantee, security, assurance, promise, pledge. We can simply define surety as a promise, enforceable by law, to be responsible for the debt, failure, or default of another. It is a pledge to make your credit or merit a collateral for the benefit of another. For example, in our contemporary world, you need a guarantee to get a loan. You will get the loan, not because of your credit, but because of the credit of your guarantee.
Through the new testament, or the gospel, grace¹ has been made available for the complete salvation of humanity. So if we come to God asking for salvation, He wants us to come with a guarantee. Our own merit will never be enough to qualify us to be citizens of heaven. Jesus Christ, through His grace, is the guarantee of the new testament; an everlasting covenant. By the oat of God, He has made Himself responsible for our sins forever.
To the unbeliever this might sound too good to be true. It might even offend the religious ones. But that's what scripture said. That is what Jesus has done for us and is doing today. That is the reason He died on the Cross. That is the reason He descended to hell. He was paying for our sins to fulfill His role as our guarantee.
In the mind of God, because of His great love for us, Jesus was made a guarantee to give us the CONFIDENCE to be saved. There is no need for anyone to fear that it will become a license for sin. It was God Himself who set up the system.
Let no one deceive you. We will always need the grace of Jesus in our account before we can be saved; even to get anything from God. That's why He is our guarantee. That also makes Him our righteousness. He is our sanctification. He is our redemption. He is our wisdom from God. He is our salvation.
Jesus Christ is the mediator of the new testament. He is our substitute in all judgment. He is our High Priest. He is our advocate. He is our intercessor. All of these roles are summed up in one title. JESUS CHRIST: The Guarantee of the New Testament.
With Jesus Christ as guarantee, the new covenant is made failure proof for humanity. God will forgive our sin. He will save us. He will heal us. He will make us holy. He will prosper us. He will receive us in heaven. All we have to do is come with faith in Jesus Christ; even faith in His blood and His name.
To qualify as a guarantee for the deliverance of another, you must fulfill the divine principle found in the book of Job². “He will even deliver one who is not innocent; Yes, he will be delivered by the purity of your hands.” Jesus Christ absolutely qualifies. He is the guarantee of our salvation.
"Wherefore he is able also to SAVE them to the uttermost [completely] that come unto God BY HIM, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.
For such an High Priest became us, who is HOLY, HARMLESS, UNDEFILED, SEPARATE FROM SINNERS, and made higher than the heavens;" (Hebrews 7:25-26).
If you want to truly honour Jesus, you must believe that He is the guarantee of the new testament. Nothing else will guarantee your salvation.
