BENEFIT OF FAITH IN THE BLOOD
THE LORD WILL COME TO SAVE US.
God has provided the blood of Jesus Christ for the salvation of humanity in every generation. But how many of the over seven billion people in the world today do you think are privy to the mystery of the power in the blood? There are still billions of people on earth who scoff at the blood that has the power to save them. This is mainly due to a lack of knowledge. The rest is due to unbelief.
IN EGYPT
The Israelites were captives in Egypt for over four hundred years. But after they applied the blood of a lamb to the lintel and doorposts of their houses¹, following the instructions of God, they were now expecting the salvation of God in the midst of imminent judgment in the land. They understood that they were no longer part of the judgment. Surely they were saved in the judgment. The destroyer could not enter their houses.
IN JERICHO
The Harlot Rahab is another powerful example in the scriptures. Imminent judgment was coming upon Jericho and her inhabitants. Rahab’s house was sitting right on top of the wall destined to fall. But she was instructed by the two spies to tie a scarlet thread - a symbol of the blood - to her window². I am sure if there was time they would have asked her to kill a lamb and apply the blood.
TOKENS TO US
The Bible called both the blood applied in Egypt and the scarlet thread of Rahab a token; a token to Israel and to Rahab³. The blood is a token to the one expecting deliverance. The blood does not become a token until we apply it by faith.
Faith in the blood of Jesus Christ is a token (sign) from God to us that we will be delivered from judgment.
While others were fearful and anticipating judgment in Jericho; Rahab (and her family), in the same land, were expecting deliverance.
She was told by the spies;
"We are coming back to take the land. Let us meet this scarlet thread hanging from your window. Then you and your household will be safe from destruction."
SUCH FAITHFULNESS!
Just imagine the faithfulness of this woman. She didn't know when exactly Israel was coming for the land. But I can just imagine her checking; last thing every night before going to bed, and first thing in the morning when she woke up; to ensure that the scarlet thread was still hanging from her window. To others it was madness or foolishness. To her it was obedience to instruction. She was expecting her salvation. The blood meant that her portion was different.
She was privy to a secret that impacted directly on her safety and that of her family. Everything depended on her faithfulness to the covenant with the spies - who, by extension, were representatives of the God of Israel.
HOW FAITHFUL ARE WE TO OUR OWN COVENANT OF SALVATION?
In this dispensation we are just like Rahab and Israel in Egypt. We are also privy to the secret of the blood that the world does not understand. We are expecting our Lord to come and save us. When we put faith in the blood of Jesus we should no longer be expecting judgment; we should be expecting salvation even in the midst of judgment in the world.
"For AS OFTEN (or frequently) as you EAT THIS BREAD, and DRINK THIS CUP, you do SHOW the LORD'S death TILL HE COME" (1 Corinthians 11:26)
The cup is the blood of Jesus Christ, the new testament in the blood of Jesus Christ.
i. Every time we take the communion we are demonstrating our faith in the blood. We are acknowledging Jesus Christ as Lord - our Lord and Saviour.
ii. It also means that we are expecting our Lord. He is coming again for our salvation. He will come true for us in the time of judgment.
iii. It means that our faith is anchored on the true Gospel. We believe that Jesus Christ died for us.
iv. It signals our separation from the judgment of the world.
v. Like Rahab we SHOW [prove, display or demonstrate] the Lord's death [for us] until He comes.
vi. We are announcing that we are a ransomed people.
vii. We are bringing evidence that Christ died for us; so that we can collect on the will He wrote for our benefits⁴ - our inheritance.
GOD HONOURS THE BLOOD
In a sense, God is not really faithful to us; He is faithful to Jesus Christ who has shed His blood for our sin. Our faith in the blood honours Jesus. God, in return, accepts our faith in the blood in honour of Jesus Christ.
