MY REDEEMER

My Redeemer! That is one of the most powerful names you can call God. It leaves the devil confused and completely disarmed. For when God decides to put on His robe of redemption, He does not ignore your sins. Instead He takes responsibility for them in order for divine justice to be satisfied. Indeed God is love! What you have to do in response is to sincerely acknowledge and repent of your sins and cry out to Him for forgiveness.

This is why God carefully introduced Himself to Moses*. God did not send an angel. He did not send a prophet. God introduced Himself by Himself. This is so important that we have to break it down.

1. I am Merciful.

2. I am gracious.

3. I am longsuffering.

4. I am abundant in goodness and truth.

5. I keep mercy for thousands.

6. I forgive iniquity and transgression and sin.

7. I will by no means clear the guilty.

8. I will visit the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

LOVE and JUDGMENT

If you consider this introduction carefully you will see the two sides of divine justice.

i. Love (1-6).

ii. Judgment (7-8).

Until we repent of our sins, ask for and receive forgiveness from God; we remain guilty. We have unknowingly settled for His judgment.

SAVE YOURSELF AND YOUR GENERATION

You will notice how Moses responded to God's introduction of Himself. He prayed to God by acknowledging their sin and asked Him to forgive and redeem them. He did it worshiping.

And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and WORSHIPED.

And he said, If now I have found grace in your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray You, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and PARDON our iniquity and our sin, and take us for YOUR INHERITANCE.” (Exodus 34:8-10).

THE INHERITANCE OF GOD

Moses understood that when God redeems you, you become His inheritance. The inheritance of God are His redeemed people. We can see that in the book of Isaiah.

But now thus says the LORD that created you, O Jacob, and he that formed you, O Israel, Fear not: for I have REDEEMED YOU, I have called you by your name; YOU ARE MINE.” (Isaiah 43:1).

PROMISES OF REDEMPTION

That prayer of Moses provoked God to speak about His covenant of redemption.

And he said, Behold, I make a COVENANT: before all your people I WILL DO MARVELS, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which you are shall see the work of the LORD: for it is A TERRIBLE THING that I will do with you.” (Exodus 34:10).

If God redeems you, He will do terrible things with you (for you and through you).

THE REDEEMER

The covenant of God is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. He is our Redeemer sent from God. God is able to forgive our sins because He redeems us through Jesus Christ. That is why Jesus died on the Cross to redeem us with His blood. He paid the price by taking the punishment for our sins upon Himself. We acknowledge our sin when we believe in Jesus Christ. This is what we are saying. “It is for my sin that Jesus Christ died. He is my Redeemer; my Saviour and my Lord.

If we don't receive Jesus' death for us, then we will take the punishment for our sins by ourselves for justice to be satisfied. God will by no means clear the guilty.

CONSIDER THESE OTHER PROMISES OF REDEMPTION (TO THE REDEEMED).

Fear not, you worm Jacob, and you men of Israel; I will help you, says the LORD, and your REDEEMER, the Holy One of Israel.” (Isaiah 41:14).

Shall the prey be taken from the mighty, or the lawful captive delivered?

But thus says the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contends with you, and I will save your children.

And I will feed them that oppress you with their own flesh; and they shall be drunken with their own blood, as with sweet wine: and all flesh shall know that I the LORD am your Saviour and YOUR REDEEMER, the mighty One of Jacob.” (Isaiah 49:24-26).

You may be a captive of some sort today. But when you acknowledge your sin and call for His help; He will answer you with His terrible act to save you.

Is the LORD your Redeemer?

KEEPING MERCY FOR THOUSANDS, FORGIVING INIQUITY AND TRANSGRESSION AND SIN, and that will BY NO MEANS CLEAR THE GUILTY; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.” (Exodus 34:6-7).
