THE COVENANT OF DIVINE PEACE
THE COVENANT OF DIVINE PEACE
As a result of what Jesus Christ has done for us in His death on the Cross and resurrection God swore an oath.
"For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for AS I HAVE SWORN that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; SO HAVE I SWORN that I would not be wroth with you, nor rebuke you.
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from you, neither shall the COVENANT OF MY PEACE be removed, saith the LORD that HATH MERCY ON YOU." (Isaiah 54:9-10).
God poured out His wrath upon Jesus Christ to make a covenant of peace for us. It is first a covenant of peace or reconciliation with God. Then it is a covenant of completeness, soundness, welfare, safety, security, prosperity, health, tranquility, contentment.
It is not difficult to understand that the New Testament in the blood of Jesus Christ is the covenant of peace.
Jesus Christ is called the Prince of Peace (Isaiah 9:6).
The punishment that brought us peace fell upon Jesus Christ. (Isaiah 53:5).
ACCORDING TO HIS MERCY
It clearly says that the source of this covenant is mercy from God. It was because of His mercy that God delivered Jesus up to die for us**. The blood of Jesus Christ is the token of the new testament of peace.
ACTIVATING THE COVENANT
To understand how the covenant of peace works for our good, God gave us His covenant with Noah as the reference. In His covenant with Noah God gave him and the earth the rainbow as the token. When a cloud forms in the sky and God sees a rainbow on earth; what should have been a flood of judgment will be averted by the mercy of God.
In the covenant of peace, in the face of imminent judgement when God sees faith in the blood, judgment will be averted by the mercy of God. Our part in this covenant is to bring faith in the blood of Jesus Christ. The blood is the guarantee of God's covenant of peace. That is where the divine mercy flows from.
"I WILL NOT BE WROTH WITH YOU." When God sees faith in the blood He remembers that He has poured out His wrath upon Jesus Christ; justice has been satisfied. The whole of Isaiah 53 is the description of how God poured His wrath upon Jesus Christ. It is the basis of the promise in Hebrews 8:12.
"For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more."
We could even say that divine mercy is the major provision of the new testament. If you read from the beginning you will observe that divine mercy marks the turning point from misery to victory; barrenness to increase; rejection to favour.
"For a small moment have I forsaken you; but with GREAT MERCIES will I gather you.
In a little wrath I hid my face from you for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I HAVE MERCY ON YOU, saith the LORD your Redeemer." (Isaiah 54:7-8).
In the new covenant all the wonderful promises* that will establish our peace, flows through the mercy of God.
1. I would not be wroth with you, nor rebuke you.
2. My kindness shall not depart from you.
3. Neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed.
4. Behold I will lay your stones with fair colours, and lay your foundations with sapphires.
5. I will make your windows of agates, and your gates of carbuncles, and all your borders of pleasant stones.
5. All your children shall be taught of the LORD.
7. Great shall be the peace of your children.
8. In righteousness shall you be established.
9. You shall be far from oppression; for you shall not fear.
10. You shall be far from terror; for it shall not come near you.
11. Behold … whosoever shall gather together against you shall fall for your sake.
12. Behold…no destructive weapon that is formed against you shall prosper.
13. Every tongue that shall rise against you in judgment you shall condemn.
14. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD.
15. Their righteousness is of me (by the blood of Jesus Christ).
That's the power of the covenant of peace - the new testament in the blood of Jesus Christ. If YOU BELIEVE GOD you can receive these promises (Isaiah 53:1).
