SALVATION

The word salvation covers the entire scope of deliverance. There are two broad categories of salvation.

1. God saves spiritually.

2. God saves temporally.

Being saved spiritually is what gives a man the identity of righteousness*. He becomes the redeemed of the Lord. The person who is spiritually saved is the righteousness of God.

Righteousness gives you the right to temporal salvation. Temporal salvation is the deliverance of the righteous from trouble in this world. Moses was speaking about temporal salvation when Israel was hopelessly in trouble before the Red sea. They were already redeemed from Egypt and on their way to the Promised Land.

"Fear not, stand still, and SEE THE SALVATION OF THE LORD, which he will show to you today…" (Exodus 14:13).

Temporal salvation is a promise of God to His people. "But the SALVATION OF THE RIGHTEOUS is of the LORD: He is their strength in the time of trouble." (Psalms 37:39). Just as we use our faith to be made righteous we can also use our faith to receive deliverance from trouble in this world. The righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith. The righteous shall live by faith*.

TEMPORAL SALVATION

Temporal salvation is the deliverance of the righteous from trouble in this world. Healing, protection, preservation and provision would all fall into the category of temporal salvation. In scripture temporal salvation can happen in three ways.

1. GOD CAN SAVE AN ENTIRE PEOPLE BECAUSE THEY REPENTED OF THEIR SIN AND TURNED TO RIGHTEOUSNESS.

It was so in the case of Nineveh.

2. GOD CAN SAVE THE RIGHTEOUS PEOPLE IN THE LAND.

It's a Psalms 91 type of deliverance.

"A thousand shall fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.

Only with your eyes shall you behold and see the reward of the wicked." (Psalms 91:7-8).

i. Noah and his family were delivered in the flood (Genesis 7 and 8).

ii. Rahab the harlot and her family were delivered in the judgment of Jericho. (Joshua chapters 2 and 6).

iii. The deliverance of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the burning fiery furnace. (Daniel 3).

iv. The deliverance of Daniel in the den of lions (Daniel 6).

v. God made provision of food and water in the desert for His people.

3. GOD CAN SAVE THE RIGHTEOUS PEOPLE FROM THE LAND.

i. Lot and his family were delivered from Sodom. (Genesis 19).

ii. The Nation of Israel was delivered from Egypt. (Exodus 12-14).

Clearly the condition for temporal salvation is repentance and righteousness. However, the person that will enjoy temporal salvation will learn to stand still in faith during the trials of life. He should be at peace, confidently trusting in the Lord.
