FIGHT FOR IT!
In the natural world people generally believe that it is alright to fight legally for what belongs to them. But for most children of God, there seems to be some hesitation to fight when it comes to their portion spiritually. They think it is not right to fight. Yet scripture teaches that it is spiritually lawful to fight for what belongs to us.
"Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses" (1 Timothy 6:12).
A WRONG PHILOSOPHY
By fighting we are not necessarily talking about carrying guns and swords or any physical weapon. The reason we are not willing to fight is we have bought into a faulty philosophy. Someone has lied to us. We have believed a lie. When you believe a lie you don't fight. But when you believe the truth you fight for it in order to experience it. That is what the fight of faith is all about. We must overcome every wrong philosophy against our inheritance in Christ.
"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ" (2 Cor. 10:3-5).
A YOUNG MAN WHO BELIEVED A LIE
This reminds me of one of Kenny Rogers' songs; a secular song with a strong lesson about life. I loved that song in my University days and played it frequently. As I was thinking about this subject, it came to me afresh. It serves me for my illustration. The title of the song is "Coward of the County".
Coward of the County is about a young man named Tommy by his mother; but everyone else called him "Yellow". His father died in prison when he was ten years old. The last words he told Tommy were these. "Son my life is over but yours has just begun. Promise me son not to do the things I have done. Walk away from trouble if you can. It won't mean you are weak if you turn the other cheek." Now here comes the faulty line;
"Son, you don't have to fight to be a man".
As a result of that wrong philosophy passed down to him by the authority figure of his father, the entire County named him "Coward of the County". But inside of him was a warrior kept in prison. He was held captive by a wrong philosophy and a promise he made to his father.
A PHILOSOPHICAL PRISONER
His father died in a physical prison; but he put his son in a philosophical prison before he died.
And life punished Tommy for it. Wrong philosophies will rob you until you correct them. Tommy found a lover called Becky. And he loved her so much. One day three bad boys called the Gatlin boys came to his house when he was at work; and all three of them took their turn at Becky. They raped her because they knew Tommy would do nothing. But that was the experience that changed Tommy.
POWER OF LOVE
The love of Tommy for Becky was stronger than the faulty philosophy of his father. That experience was too much for his philosophy. His love has been violated. It broke down the prison walls of that wrong philosophy. To cut the story short, Tommy, with tears streaming down his face, took down his late father's photo from above the fire place and said to him in his heart; "I promised you dad not to do the things you have done. To walk away from trouble if I can. Now please don't think I am weak if I don't turn the other cheek. Papa I sure hope you understand; sometimes you have to fight to be a man." With that he went to look for the Gatlin boys in the ballroom. By the time Tommy was leaving the ballroom not one of Gatlin boys was standing on his feet. As he left the ballroom he said to his father again; "I promised you dad not to do the things you have done. To walk away from trouble if I can. Now please don't think I am weak because I didn't turn the other cheek. Papa I sure hope you understand; sometimes you have to fight to be a man." His true identity was revealed to the entire County that day. With that his respect and dignity was restored.
THE STRATEGY OF THE ENEMY
How long did Tommy suffer under a faulty philosophy? He was held captive by a lie for many years. The enemy is an opportunist. He either injects into you a wrong belief system or he comes in to take advantage of one. His access to rob us is a faulty belief system. We are Children of God, but in many ways we are like Tommy. Many of us have become prisoners to a lie of the enemy. And he has been robbing us dry.
I ask again; "Who lied to us that we don't need to fight for our portion spiritually?" Many times that is why we are not experiencing what Christ has freely given to us.
Our health, our finances, our marriages and children are under attack. So are our careers and ministries.
Yet we are watching the enemy and waiting on God when He has given us all authority over the enemy. Part of the spiritual blessings the Father gave to us His children is all authority over the enemy.
TO BE A MAN SPIRITUALLY WE MUST FIGHT
The truth is we must use our authority to fight the good fight of faith for what is written about us to become our experience.
Passivity in the spirit is not a virtue. The devil has no respect for spiritually passive Christians. He is a thief, not a gentleman. He enjoys stealing from passive children of God to spite God.
We must resist him violently with all the legal spiritual weapons at our disposal until it becomes a bad idea for him to encroach on our portion any more. That's our responsibility. If we don't do it God can do nothing for us.
Would you wait for God to call the police and your lawyer if someone is molesting your wife in the natural? You will not hesitate to take legal action against the offender. Take that attitude to the spirit and you will not suffer any loss to the enemy. It is called the good fight of faith. You are called to win. God is not behind our troubles. It is the enemy. God has given us the victory. It is in our hands.
DEFINITION OF THE GOOD FIGHT
The good fight is fighting for what belongs to you. God will back you up in that fight. You must fight for what is yours before you will enjoy it. It is all yours in the spirit. Only the fight of faith will bring it into manifestation. Jesus Himself said "the kingdom of God suffereth violence and the violent take it by force" (Matthew 11:12). The word of God (His prophetic promises) shows us what belongs to us. We are to war with those promises, as our legal backing, for what belongs to us. Fight for a sound mind. It is yours. "For God hath not GIVEN us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a SOUND MIND" (2 Timothy 1:7). Possess your mind!
CONCLUSION
We must learn to fight the good fight of faith. On earth we need to fight for our inheritance in Christ. We must fight for a sound mind because it is our inheritance in Christ. We must know the truth. If the enemy can rule our minds he will control every thing else. If we don't fight for what Christ has purchased for us in His finished work of redemption, the enemy will steal them all and God will be watching. Fight your way to heaven!
PRAYER
Father, teach me to fight for my inheritance in Christ; in the name of Jesus.
In the name of Jesus Christ I possess the spirit of power, and of love, and of a SOUND MIND.
