ENJOY COVENANT KINDNESS

"That in the ages to come he might SHEW the exceeding riches of his grace in HIS KINDNESS TOWARD US through Christ Jesus." (Ephesians 2:7).

God is kind. But He is also sovereign. The kindness of God is His favour (goodness, mercy and faithfulness) towards man. In His sovereignty God can choose who to show His kindness. But there is another level of kindness to enjoy. Covenant kindness is when divine kindness becomes your divine right. That right is reserved for God's children. Therefore the Children of God should know how to receive the kindness of their heavenly Father.

DAVID IS MOVED BY COVENANT

The covenant between David and Jonathan is given for our witness and example. That covenant was essentially about David SHOWING KINDNESS to Jonathan and his seed, for as long as David was alive. God was back of it. (Read 1 Samuel 20:14-17, 42).

It was the covenant that later moved David to SHOW KINDNESS to Mephibosheth the son of Jonathan; lifted him up from Lo Debar to his palace in Jerusalem and also protected him from death.

"And David said, Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may SHEW HIM KINDNESS for Jonathan's sake?" (2 Samuel 9:1).

"But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, BECAUSE OF THE LORD'S OATH that was between them, between DAVID AND JONATHAN THE SON OF SAUL." (2 Samuel 21:7).

Mephibosheth had no strength of his own. David became his strength and defender. The covenant covered his disabilities and brought him favour, deliverance, restoration, provision, protection and preservation. Read 2 Samuel 9:1-13 and 2 Samuel 21:1-7).

LET GOD BE YOUR DEFENDER

The New Covenant is the everlasting agreement between God and Jesus Christ. It is written with the blood of Jesus Christ. Like the covenant between David and Jonathan, it is essentially about GOD SHOWING KINDNESS TO HIS CHILDREN AND SAVING THEM through faith in Jesus Christ, (faith in His death, burial and resurrection). Through faith they become identified with Christ by covenant as Mephibosheth was identified with Jonathan. Therefore God, who is able, is also committed to show them His kindness.

"But God, who is RICH IN MERCY, for his GREAT LOVE wherewith he LOVED US,

Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace you are saved;)

And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

That in the ages to come he might SHEW the exceeding riches of his grace in HIS KINDNESS TOWARD US through Christ Jesus.

For by GRACE are you saved THROUGH FAITH; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:4-8).

IT WAS PROMISED BY GOD

The promise was revealed by God through Isaiah's prophecy but fulfilled in Christ Jesus.

"In a little wrath I hid my face from you for a moment; but with EVERLASTING KINDNESS will I have mercy on you, saith the LORD your Redeemer.

For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I HAVE SWORN that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I SWORN that I would not be wroth with you, nor rebuke you.

For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but MY KINDNESS shall not depart from you, neither shall the COVENANT OF MY PEACE be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on you." (Isaiah 54:8-10).

FAITH AND PRAYER

The children of God can come to Him by faith at any time to receive His kindness in the name of Jesus Christ. God will help them because of His faithfulness to His covenant with Jesus Christ. Whenever you recognize your inability, ask God to show you His kindness. Cry out for it!

"Father, show me your kindness in the name of Jesus Christ."

There is power in the blood of Jesus Christ!
