THE FOUNDATION OF LEADERSHIP

Leadership is by mercy.

"So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.

For the Scripture says to the Pharaoh, “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.”

Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and whom He wills He hardens." (Romans 9:16-18).

Leadership is by the mercy of God. A leader that understands that will serve with the fear of God. He will be kind to those he is called to serve. When a leader fails to understand this, God removes His mercy from him as He did to Saul.

Speaking about David, God said; "But MY MERCY shall not DEPART AWAY from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you." (2 Samuel 7:15).

Once God takes away His mercy, He also takes away the mantle of authority for leadership. The leader becomes an empty shell waiting to be crushed.

"Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. . .

But the Spirit of the LORD DEPARTED FROM SAUL, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him." (1 Samuel 16:13-14).

When mercy found David, power came upon him to serve as king over Israel(i). David understood that it is not about the power; it is about the mercy and the purpose of God. Saul did not understand. Pharaoh did not even know the LORD to understand. Tragically, there are many today who still do not understand that leadership is by the mercy of God.
